Selecting the Airbnb That's Right for You

Welcome to your how-to guide on booking an Airbnb! I think that sometimes this can be an overwhelming part of planning a trip, but I wanted you to be able to stay places that have a little more character than your everyday hotel. So, let’s build a dream stay using Airbnb.com!

First, let’s pick a road trip destination… Let’s go to Portland, Oregon! This also happens to be the first prompt on the website – so select your location, and we will go from there. Then click on “find a place to stay.” Then a calendar will be pulled up, so for the sake of the example, let’s say I’m going January 10-12. Next, it will ask for a number of guests. I suggest never road tripping alone, so let’s put 3 adults.

This will then take you to a page ranging from least to most expensive Airbnbs in your city you have selected that are available during your date range. I also like how Airbnb.com gives you a mix of options – for this search alone, you get to see a ton of different options – townhouses, homes, entire rental units – and you get to see a list of things that are offered to you if you choose to stay there.

The next step is to pick where you stay! So, let’s say that I just want to stay in Portland for two nights and spend the rest of the road trip in Seattle. There is a historic Irvington rental unit that will be a total of $128 for both nights, and it has a 4.77-star rating – free parking included. Once you click on that one, you can see a little summary on the apartment, and this one specifically talks about how this host usually doesn’t have any availability because he’s such a great host! It also will show you where in Portland the apartment is located, and it will also include reviews and a short biography of the host!

Picking a place to stay can be stressful, but with Airbnb.com, it doesn’t have to be.
