Whether you want to plan a multi-stop trip or you have only a single destination in mind, planning the perfect driving route is so important to make your trip a success! Preplanning stops on the way to your destination/s for bathroom breaks and planning how you will get to each of your destinations will remove the hassle once you already get on the road.
Use road trip planning apps to plan stops on your route
There are multiple apps that can help you find not only bathroom breaks, but also other roadside attractions on your way to your destination. My favorite app to use is Roadtrippers. This app lets you route from one destination to another, and then it will show you all of the other possible stops you could take near that route. You can also search for specific things you want to stop at like gas stations, outdoor recreation areas, hotels and campsites, landmarks, and even things like nightlife and restaurants. This app can truly help you get the most out of your drive.
Multi-stop trips
When you are wanting to plan a trip with multiple destinations, the first thing you can do to create a route is pick one specific stop that you are most excited about. Doing this, will ensure that you are able to go to that stop, and the you can plan the rest of your stops based on your main stop. Another great way to plan multi-stop trips is to pick a specific region in the U.S. that you want to target. If you pick a specific region, then you can look for locations there and make a loop through the area. If you are new to planning multi-stop road trips, the Roadtrippers app also has mutliple pre-planned trips in regions of the U.S. that you can follow along with in the app and edit to make it custom to your trip's needs.
Single destination trips
If you are just driving to one place, your intentions for the trip will really dictate how you drive to your destination. If you are wanting to drive straight to your destination in a timely manner, using the Roadtrippers app can help you preplan you gas and bathroom stops so that you stay on track with your desired driving time. If you want to stop and see a few sights on the way to your destination, make sure you plan ahead the extra time that it will take to make these stops. Using the Roadtrippers app can help you time out these stops.
There is no right or wrong way to road trip. Getting out on the open road and just going is always going to be a fun time. These road trip planning tips will help you create structure in your trip and ensure that you are getting the most out of your time!
